Your expert local guide will collect you from your chosen accommodation each day and take you to the extensive mangrove lined rivers & estuary systems that make this a truly unique region, and one of the hottest fishing spots in Oz.

Thrill to that close encounter strike of Australia's premier light tackle sportfish, the might barramundi. Watch in awe as it jumps clear of the water and shake its head violently in a desperate attempt to throw that lure, not just once, but again and again - great stuff!

Retire to your accommodation each evening, sit back, relax, have a cold beer and watch the spectacular sun set over the Gulf and dream about the ones that didn't get away.

Even though Weipa’ s reputation for producing superb barra fishing is well founded, what must not be overlooked however is the amazing light tackle sportfishing on offer including mangrove jacks from the creeks and rocky outcrops, queenfish to a metre plus from the sand bars and flats, monster trevally (GT’s & Goldens) and spanish mackerel form the harbor entrance leads and even cod, giant herring and tarpon – a fly fisherman’s paradise.

Accommodation

Heritage Resort Weipa: A brand new, luxury resort located in the town centre adjacent to the shopping complex. The resort features 30 quality air-conditioned rooms (some with disabled facilities) which cater to single, twin share and family stays, a 100 seat licensed a la carte restaurant and bar, together with landscaped tropical pool and BBQ area.

Weipa Camping & Caravan Park: Situated on thirteen acres of lush green lawns and shade trees right on Albatross Bay, only two minutes walk from town. This very clean park offers tropical self-contained air-conditioned cabin style accommodation. They include fully equipped kitchens, tea & coffee making facilities, TV's, bedding, all linen and towels.
