Trip Reports
Being stuck in an office behind a computer is a significant part of my day now that I'm doing this web site thing, but I get out on the water whenever the opportunity arises, and here are a few of my trip reports to give you a taste of fishing North Queensland style:
Please note that the following reports are all PDF files, so you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Aurukun Fishing Charters: I recently went for a run up Aurukun on the western coast of Cape York with my good mate Keith Graham from Bransford Tackle Shop. What a wicked couple of days!!!
- Cairns Near-Shore Blue Water Sportsfishing: John Massey is justifiably proud of his brand new 6 metre Barra Tracka, a vessel ideally suited to cruising the near-shore blue water fishing scene. Since he had promised to take me out in her for months now, a good run of fine weather finally forced his hand and we set off to track down tuna, spotted mackerel, and big mouth nannygai.
- Lake Tinaroo Barra: Join Jason from Got One Cairns as he tackles monster barra in the Tinaroo impoundment.

- Cairns Coastal Charters: There's nothing like going fishing with an old mate, and Justin Gibbins really knows how turn a day's reef fishing into a day to remember.

- Princess Charlotte Bay: By plane and 4WD we made our way to the remote east coast of Cape York with the guys from MV Boomerang to track down monster barra and anything else our hearts desired.

- Looking For Marlin: Talk about a full-on experience! A day with Kim Anderson and New Moon III, pulling in 30lb tuna to use as bait, and a frantic run-in with a 500lb marlin.

- Up The River Without A Paddle: The North Johnson system south of Cairns might not have the biggest fish in the world, but getting amongst jungle perch, jacks and sooty grunter is not to be missed.

- Knee Deep In Reds: A day out on the reef with Peter Todd and Aqua-Cat means more nannygai, red emperor and coral trout than you can poke a stick at, and the company of a great crew.

- To The Top Of Australia: And what do you do when the wife gives you a 5 day leave pass? I went to the tip of Cape York, hooked up with Gary Wright, and spent the next few days chasing some serious GT's, queenies, barra and king salmon.
- Mitchell River: Its not often that I can get away during the middle of the "high season" but an offer to go bush - to fish the wild Gulf waters on the Mitchell River out of Kowanyama - was an offer too good to refuse.
- Big Barra At Peter Faust Dam: I had heard stories for a few months about monster barramundi living happily in a dam a few hours south of Cairns and spending their spare time comprehensively smashing any angler that came close. The stories turned out to be true and my 50lb braid, 60lb leader and big deep diving lures beefed up with extra strong trebles were only just up to the task.
