Ribbons 2005

The weekend was fabulous out on the water. The ladies Ribbons was a great success with the Team on Kanahoee (TSV) taking the honours with 1st place. They managed to get on to a school of Dolphin Fish early in the day and caught 19 in one session.

Junior division was won by a very brave young lady on Snap Dragon (private Cairns boat). She fought her first marlin (350lb) for 2 hours 40min only to have her rod snap in 3 places when the fish came up and jumped at the back of the boat. 20mins later they hooked up again, this time with a 150lb marlin. Sophie once again fought the fish for 1.30mins but this time she won. The fish was tagged and released. An award well deserved.

We managed to hook up onto all different species - 2 dolphin fish, 8 Benito, 2 Rainbow Runners, 1 Barracuda and we dropped an 80lb Wahoo at the back of the boat after a 15min fight (at least it managed to get away from the shark that was tailing it!!)

River & Estuary

The warm weather is certainly bringing the barra, fingermark and jacks on the chew.....remember its closed season for the taking of barra however and all fish accidentally caught must be released unharmed.

Plenty of trevally, GT and goldens, about on the flats and drop offs with the remote Cape York rivers really firing. One report of dozens of permit cruising the flats up north. These are spectacular on the fly and highly prised species. Giant herring also about.

Lake Tinaroo should be firing now with the warm summer storms approaching so get up there if you want a monster......the closed season does not apply to these fish but a tag must be used to identify the capture.

Compliments of the season to all our readers and past clients. 2005 has been a fabulous year with many highlights.

The best probably being the week I spent up in PNG with Capt. Kim Andersen on the Mantary chasing a dozen or so metre long barra.......OR was it the three days my wife and I spent out with Capt. Barry Cross on the fabulous 65ft game boat Joe Joe on the No 2 Ribbon Reef.

We tend to take so much for granted living in tropical paradise.

MERRY CHRISTMANS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL
Les Marsh
