Target Species › Emperor
There is much confusion surrounding the common names of our Tropical reef fish and its no wonder when you can catch a "sweetlip", a "tricky snapper", a "red throat emperor" an "emperor", a "spangled emperor", and even a "long nosed emperor", all of which are members of the Lethinus family. And then someone will even call it a snapper. Phew !
And to make matters even worse we have the highly sought after red emperor which is actually a Lutjanus and related to the mangrove jack and fingermark.
Use your imagination when you next hear the name - who really knows what fish you are catching?
