Weipa Camping & Caravan Park
Email: campweipa@bigpond.com
Web: www.campweipa.com

Weipa Camping Ground is located on Albatross Bat and offers 13 acres of lush green lawns with plenty of trees for shade and only two minutes walk from town. This very clean park offers tropical self-contained, air-conditioned cabin style accommodation as well as not self-contained cabins.

The park has 48 powered sites, a salt-water swimming pool, souvenir shop, bait, ice, maps and lots of friendly local advice.

Weipa is the largest town on the Cape and is serviced daily by jet from Cairns, it is approx. 800 km by 4WD.

Since May this year, construction has been underway to finish the newest edition of buildings to the Weipa Camping Ground. The four-bedroom lodge is along the beachfront at the far back corner of the grounds and offers stunning views from all of the rooms and bathrooms!

Designed by camping ground owner Maree Johnson, the overall desire is to create a space that is unique to Weipa and offers an intimate experience for guests.

The lodge can accommodate 17 people at any one time and will have features such as LCD TVs in all rooms with AUSTAR, pool and spa, a theatre/conference room, laundry service and a restaurant, with all artworks sourced from Western Cape Artists. Initially the lodge was designed to cater to tourists travelling here on fishing trips but Maree says, “It will appeal to people on business trips as well because we have the conference room and there will be access to laptops and the Internet”.

At $150 p/double a night, the lodge is exceptionally inexpensive compared to other accommodation of this kind with such spectacular views. Maree says that as well as looking into having morning teas for guests and locals in the restaurant, there are also plans to create a native bush foods garden and run Indigenous tours.
