Permit
Fish Species Of North Queensland
Permit
Considered one of the worlds premier light tackle game fish and fly fishing targets, it was many years before these fish came to prominence in Tropical Australian waters. Old time anglers knew they were there, but locals did not have the same affection for these great sportfish.
They were usually caught while baitfishing for other species and although many anglers marvelled at their fighting ability and great stamina, an appreciation of their worth was not evident until fairly recent times.
Fish stocks are not believed to be large and fish are caught as a by-catch. Methods to target permit specifically are only just now being developed by forward thinking guides and anglers, and their preferred congregation areas should come to light over the next few years.
Permit (or Snub Nosed Dart) are caught to 8kg, and are usually released.
