Silver Jew
Fish Species Of North Queensland
Silver Jewfish
Silver Jewfish are a smaller cousin of the much revered southern Mulloway and Northern Australia’s Black Jewfish. In appearance they are very similar, but as their name suggests they do not have the darker markings of their cousin, and are a much smaller fish.
It is very difficult to actually catch a legal sized fish (45cm) in our local waters, but at times their numbers can be prolific. More common during the cooler months, silver jew will take most small baits, prawns and fish fillet strips fished on the bottom with a standard running rig.
Not a prime target species but fun for the family outing on light tackle.
